The Department of Modern South Asian Studies warmly welcomes Dr. Faisal Kamal Haidri, who will be with the South Asia Institute until October 2022. Dr. Haidri is an Assistant Professor of Urdu and Literature at Govt. College township of Lahore, Pakistan. He is involved in translation studies and theory in the South Asian context. He is the first visually impaired scholar to receive a postdoctoral fellowship from the Punjab Higher Education Commission, Pakistan. While at the South Asia Institute, Dr. Haidri will be engaged in his research project: "Application of North's 'Function Plus Loyalty' Principle on English Translations of Selected Urdu Poetry of Allama Mohammad Iqbal." He will also devote himself to another project on the paradigm shift in translation from source to target text in the light of Hans J. Vermeer's scopo theory.
