Meet the Author: Discussion and Book Reading Session with Journalist Shubhangi Swarup
The Department of Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures is delighted to invite you to a special book reading session withShubhangi Swarup , an award-winning Indian English writer and journalist. She will be presenting her debut novel Latitudes of Longing (2018), recently translated into German by Kommode Verlag as Breiten des Verlangens. Join us on Tuesday, May 14, from 6:15 pm onwards at the Karl Jaspers Centre (400.02.12, Building 4400) to meet the author and grab a copy of the German translation. Those with an interest in contemporary Indian writing and South Asian climate fiction will find this event particularly engaging. Swarup’s novel follows a tectonically active faultline passing through different parts of South Asia. In her own words, “I spent seven years living and researching in those places, as I was keen to avoid the outsider gaze, and tried very hard to situate myself in the geography and geology, not just culture or language.” Join us as we delve deeper into the motivations that inspired Swarup to embark on this intriguing journey and learn firsthand how she navigated the challenges along the way.
