Start of the lecture series "Bangladesh Studies – Culture, Politics, Migration"
The topic of the first (video) event of the new SAI lecture series "Bangladesh Studies - Culture, Politics, Migration" on Thursday, April 15, 4.15pm - 6pm (CET), is "Socio-cultural Developments and Women´s Rights in the Bangladesh Diaspora". Mr. Hamidul Khan (founder of Immigrant Book Fair/Frankfurt a.M., publisher: "Rokeya. The most important women´s rights activist of Bangladesh and India", Bertugan Publishing House, Dec. 2020) and Ms. Eshita Binte Shirin Nazrul (PhD student, Institute of Oriental and Asian Studies, University of Bonn) will be the speakers. Open Discussion: Politicial and Social conflicts and Human Rights in Bangladesh
In Bangladesh politicial and social conflicts, security forces actions particularly in the Chittagong Hill Tracts and media policies of the government involve diverse forms of severe human rights violations. More than 800.000 Rohingya refugees live in very harsh conditions in Southeast Bangladesh since several years. Ms Hana Shams Ahmed (Anthropologist, York University, Canada; International Chittagong Hill Tracts Commission), Mr Jyotirmoy Barua (Lawyer, Supreme Court Bangladesh) and Mr Bernhard Hertlein (ai, Bangladesh-Co group, Germany) will discuss these issues at an event on Monday, 21th Ocotber 2019, at the South Asia Institute (SAI/Center for Asian Transcultural Studies/CATS).
 
After their short statements an open discussion will follow moderated by Dr. Cathrine Bublatzky (Ass. Prof., Heidelberg Centre for Transcultural Studies) and Dr. Dieter Reinhardt (Ass. Member, South Asia Institute).
