SAI at Frankfurt Book Fair

At this year´s Frankfurt Book Fair, the South Asia Institute will be represented by two events. On Saturday, October 13, 1:00 pm, a book presentation of the German translation of Perumal Murugan´s novel "Maadhorubaagan (One Part Woman)" will take place in hall 4.1 B 84. The participants are Perumal Murugan (Tamil author), Prof. Torsten Tschacher (German translator), Kannan Sundaram, Kalachuvadu (Tamil publisher), Christian Weiss (Draupadi Verlag) and Dr. Martin Gieselmann (Executive Director at SAI).

Furthermore there will be a talk on Sunday, October 14, 10:30 am on the topic „Lokal oder global? Nachdenken über Sri Lankas Konfliktlinien“ in hall 4.1 B 81. The participants are Prof. Dr. Nira Wickramasinghe (Professor for Modern South Asian Studies, Leiden University), La Toya Waha (Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence of Bielefeld University) and the moderator Martin Gieselmann (Executive Director at SAI).

In addition, the SAI together with the Heidelberg University Library will have a permanent stall at the book fair (hall 4.1. B 84) where publication format such as Heidelberg University Press (heiUP) and CrossAsia ePublishing will be presented.

Interview with Prof. Rahul Mukherji

On 19 September 2018, Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung published an interview with Prof. Dr. Rahul Mukherji entitled "Unmögliche Friedensmission aus dem Exil? Wie der China-Tibet-Konflikt das Leben des Dalai Lama prägt". The article portrays the life of Dalai Lama, discusses his role in the China-Tibet conflict and gives an outlook on the political future development. You can read the online article here.


New issue of South Asia Institute Papers published

The latest issue of the South Asia Institute Papers (SAIP) has been released. The paper includes Prof. Dr. Rahul Mukherji´s lecture on „Governing India: What do we know and need to know?“, which he held at his Inaugural Lecture delivered in the Alte Aula on 15 November 2017.
