15th Anniversary of the Sanskrit Summer Schools
On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Summer School in Spoken Sanskrit in Heidelberg the South Asia Institute cordially invites to the celebration events on Monday, 25th August and Friday, 29th August 2014. The chief guest will be his Excellency Vijay Gokhale, the Ambassador of India.

The celebration begins on Monday,  25.08.2014, from 4 to 6 p.m. with a Sanskrit performance by Ananth Rao on "The origins of poetry - A recitation from the Rāmāyaṇa" in the Library of the South Asia Institute. Dr. Rao is an expert in the traditional style of storytelling and is currently a visiting fellow in the South Asia Program, School of Culture, History and Language at the Australian National University. This event is sponsered by the embassy of India, Berlin.

His Excellency Vijay Gokhale, Ambassador of India, Berlin will preside over the closing ceremony on Friday 29th August from 10:00 to 12:30 a.m. in the reading room of the SAI. Instead of the Sarasvati Awarding Ceremony, Prof. Dr. Jan E.M. Houben, Directeur d Etudes « Sources et Histoire de la Tradition Sanskrite », Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, SHP, Sorbonne, will present a talk on "Sanskrit and the arduous emergence of integrative humanism". Afterwards  a Sanskrit play will be performed by the participants of the summer school. This will be followed by recitation of Sanskrit and Nepali songs.
