Prof. John Taber as visiting professor in Heidelberg
We welcome Prof. John Taber (Full Professor for Philosophy, University of New Mexico) as a visiting professor in the summer semester 2014. He will give lectures in the fields of South Asian Studies, Cultural and Religious History of South Asia and Transcultural Studies as replacement for Prof. Dr. Birgit Kellner during her research sabbatical at the Chair of Buddhist Studies, Cluster Asia and Europe.
John Taber is a leading international expert in the field of classical Indian philosophy. He works on the Brahmanical (Mīmāmsā) and Buddhist traditions (Yogācāra) and their interrelationships.
John Taber received his Ph.D. from Universität Hamburg in 1983 in Philosophy with Indology and General Linguistics as minor subjects. 1987 he joined the University of Mexico, where he was Chair of the department of Philophy from 2005-2009. Previously, he was also a visiting professor at the University of Vienna.
