Mohandas took first place in ranking list "Weltempfänger"
The novel "Mohandas" by Uday Prakash, translated from Hindi by Gautam Liu (Hindi-lecturer at the South Asia Institute) and Ines Fornell, took the first place in the latest issue of the literature ranking list entitled „Weltempfänger“.

The novel “Mohandas” shows the consequences that result from the still existing social problems in India, like caste spirit, corruption and nepotism. It is based on a true story and the film adaption of the novel has been shown at numerous international film festivals.

Gautam Liu is a lecturer in Hindi at the South Asia Institute, University of Heidelberg, Department of Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures and co-author of Hindi bolo since 2007.

The author Uday Prakash is a popular Hindi author and has been awarded by the Indian Academy of Literature for Mohandas. On 27th and 28th May, he will be on a book tour to Heidelberg; more dates in Germany are also planned.

The
ranking list “Weltempfänger” is an initiative of litprom - the Society for the Promotion of Literature from Africa, Asia and Latin America e.V. (Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Literatur aus Afrika, Asien und Lateinamerika e. V.), which publishes the ranking list of translated literature from Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Arab world four times a year since 2008.
