Welcome to Prof. Kirloskar-Steinbach
Last not least a warm welcome to our third guest professor this semester, namely apl. Prof. Dr. Monika Kirloskar-Steinbach, who is replacing Prof. Dharampal-Frick during her sabbatical. Monika Kirloskar-Steinbach has studied philosophy, englisch literature and psychology at Wilson College, Mumbai, where she earned her B.A. and M.A. in philosophy. In 2000 she received her doctorate at Konstanz University. In Konstanz she also finished her postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) in 2005. Find more details here
Heidelberg Center South Asia Opened
On November 17th 2009 the rector of Heidelberg University, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Eitel, has opened the Heidelberg Center South Asia in New Delhi. It is designated to enhance the activities of the existing office of the SAI. For more details see the press release and the report (German only) by Heidelberg University press office. 
DFG-Project "Changing Strategies of Resource Use" granted
The German Research Foundation (Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, DFG) has granted the funds for the project "Changing Strategies of Resource Use. The 'Bhotiyas' in the High Mountain Border Region of Uttarkhand, India". The project was applied for by Professors Nüsser and Sax. It seeks to combine anthropological and geographical theories and methods. In the coming two years research on the so-called 'Bhotiyas', former trans-Himalayan traders will be conducted by Martin Gerwin and Christoph Bermann. Find further details here.   
Setting up the Heinrich Zimmer Chair for Indian Philosophy and Intellectual History
On Monday, November 16th the SAI, Heidelberg University and the Cluster of Excellence "Asia and Europe" represented by Rektor Prof. Bernhard Eitel, and Professors Axel Michaels und Gita Dharampal-Frick have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) on the establishment of the "Heinrich-Zimmer Chair for Indian Philosophy and Intellectual History". The Chair will be awarded to Heidelberg starting from summer 2010. For further details see the press release and press coverage from Heidelberg University. 
Dr. Clemens Spiess on EU-India relations
Dr. Clemens Spiess, lecturer at the department for Political Science at the SAI, was interviewed Deutsche Welle for an article entitled "European Union's relation to India growing in intensity". Find the article here.
