New DFG-Project "The Nepalese Wright-Chronicle" approved

The German Research Foundation (DFG) has recently approved the project “The Nepalese Wright-Chronicle - Edition princeps, new translation and topographical atlas”. Prof. Axel Michaels has successfully applied for the funding. Starting from September 2011 Dr. Manik Bajracharya will conduct the research for this project at the SAI at the department for Cultural und Religious History South Asia (Classical Indology). Congratulations!

Welcome to Profs. Mufakharul Islam, Lynn Zastoupil und Bharat Desai
The SAI is happy to announce that further eminent researchers are our guests during the months of June and July. Among these are Prof. em. Dr. Mufakharul Islam, Dacca, Senior Fellow of Humboldt-Stiftung (1.-30.6), as well as Prof. Dr. Lynn Zastoupil, Rhodes College,J.J. McComb Professor of History (1.6.-10.7.). Both are guests of the Department of History. In addition the Department for Politics is honored to host since late May already and for a  total of three months Prof. Dr. Bharat H. Desai (Jawaharlal Nehru Chair in International Enviromental Law, JNU).
Information on MA South Asian Studies
On Thursday, June 9th at 13.00h (s.t.) at Z10 we invite all interested students to attend a first informative meeting on the upcoming MA South Asian Studies (MASAS). Prof. Harder and the academic counselors of the departments will report on the state of art as well as the upcoming possibilities for conducting studies under the MASAS. Everybody most welcome! 
New BW-Scholar Prof. Gera Roy arrived
Today Prof. Anjali Gera Roy (IIT Kharagpur) arrived at the SAI. Prof. Gera Roy is here on a Baden-Württemberg fellowship and will stay until late July. Prof. Roy is an expert on South Asian Popular Culture and among her recent publications is "Bhangra Moves: From Ludhiana to London and Beyond". During her stay in Heidelberg she will work on Bollywood in Germany. A hearty welcome!
