Partners
Main areas of our work include the strengthening of partnerships between Indian scholars and academic institutions and the South Asia Institute as well as promoting collaboration between local German and Indian institutions. These goals are realized by a close cooperation with the following partners:
Delhi University (DU)
Delhi University is one of the leading modern composite universities of
India. The long history of cooperation between the South Asia Institute
and Delhi University resulted in a Memorandum of Understanding, signed
on 13 January 2000. Since then, there exist four scholarships for students
and academics to teach or do research in Heidelberg.
For additional information, interested students should contact

Centre de Science Humaines (CSH)
Based in New Delhi, the CSH was
created in 1989. It is part of the network of around 30 research institutes
of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Since 1995, the Center's research
work is primarily oriented towards the study of issues concerning the contemporary
dynamics of development in India and other South Asian Countries. The four
major fields of interest are Regional Dynamics in South Asia and International
Relations, Political Dynamics, Institutional Set-up and Social Change,
Economic Transition and Sustainable Development, and Urban Dynamics.
The good relations between the SAI and the CSH have led to the signing
of an agreement of partnership for scientific exchange with effect from
1.1.2004. In this agreement the CSH offers to affiliate one PhD Student
each year from the SAI to pursue research on topics relevant to the above
mentioned fields of interest. Furthermore, the relations are strengthened
through collaborative research carried out by the present Representative
