Heidelberg Alumni Events in New Delhi, 23-25 March 2012
Heidelberg Alumni International (HAI) and HASA cordially invite all Alumni of Heidelberg University living and working in South Asia to join the Research Alumni Conference on 23rd and 24th March and the first Heidelberg Alumni South Asia Network Meeting on 25th March. Both events will be held at Max Mueller Bhavan, New Delhi.

The Research Alumni Networking project is funded by a grant awarded by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation under the auspices of its Ideas Competition program. For more information and registration please click here.

The Heidelberg Alumni South Asia Network Meeting is a  whole-day event and will include work sessions as well as a cultural and culinary programme. Besides meeting old and new fellow alumni, participants will have the chance to interact with the Rector of the University, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Eitel and members of the Heidelberg Alumni International Team, who will be present for the event.

Workshop-Report: Being Young in South Asia
"Being Young in South Asia" was the topic of a workshop from 23 to 25 November 2011 at the Karl Jaspers Centre. It was organised by project A4 "Media, Ritual and Cultures of Youth in South Asia" of the Collaborative Research Centre "Ritual Dynamics" which is coordinated by Cluster Professor Christiane Brosius.

The workshop was opened with welcoming addresses by Christiane Brosius and Karin Polit. Subsequently, Mark Liechty gave a talk on "Youth and Rituals of Class" and Karin Polit spoke on "Too young to die: is educational related suicide in South Asia a new youth ritual?". Further topics of the workshop included "Muslim girls in Gujarat" (Nandini Manjrekar), "Young Muslim in Kerala" (Julten Abdelhalim), "The 'djuice generation' in Bangladesh" (Hasan Ashraf), "Punjabi teenagers growing up in urban Britain" (Kaveri Qureshi), "Embodied Youth Politics in Uttarakhand’s Hill Towns" (Leah M. Koskimaki) and "Localizing the Global Young through Musical Ritual" (Lokesh Ohri). The final presentation was given by Christiane Brosius on "Ritualising Romantic Love and youth culture: contestations of Valentine’s Day in urban India".

Prof. M. Sultan Bhat is new Baden-Wuerttemberg Fellow at the SAI
Prof. Bhat has joined the Department of Geography at SAI in November on a scholarship of the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg and will conduct research and teach in Heidelberg for three months. For more information on Prof. Bhat, please click here.
