Dr. M. Sultan Bhat is from the Department of Geography & Regional Development (DST-FIST Sponsored & UGC-SAP Assisted Department) Kashmir University, Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir India. He is currently the Baden–Württemberg fellow at the South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University. He holds doctoral degree in Geography from University of Kashmir. He is working as professor and is also heading the department since 2006. Dr. Bhat has also served as Assistant Director, Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA), University of Kashmir. He has been actively involved in post-graduate teaching and guiding research students for doctoral programme. He has more than 30 research publications and two books to his credit and is guiding research in Urban, Integrated watershed Development, and Climate Change and Environmental studies. He has been associated with EIA & EMP studies of a number of hydroelectric projects, tourist nodes, roadways and industrial complexes of Jammu & Kashmir and has also acted as coordinator of National Project on Concurrent Evaluation of Public Distribution System in India, for Jammu & Kashmir State. He was also associated with the formulation of master Plan-2002 of Greater Srinagar City of Jammu & Kashmir. He is the fellow/ life member of a number of national societies viz; IIG, NAGI, IITP and IRSA. Prof. Bhat completed eight research and consultancy projects and is presently working on three sponsored research projects, related to land use land cover change dynamics in urban centers and tourist nodes of Kashmir and Glacial studies. His forthcoming publication is Anthropogenic Activities and Dynamics of Land Transformation in Kashmir Region of North Western Himalaya.
