Honor for Gita Dharampal-Frick
Gita Dharampal-Frick (head of the Department of History at the South Asia Institute) gave a lecture on Mahatma Gandhi "Father of the Nation?" at the 70th anniversary of India's independence in the Haus der Volksarbeit in Frankfurt (Flyer) on 30 June 2017. On this occasion, Lord Mayor Peter Feldmeister conveyed an appreciating greeting, which is available here.



New Publication "Gemstones in the First Millennium AD - Mines, Trade, Workshops and Symbolism"
RGZM (Verlag des Römisch-Germanischen Zentralmuseums) recently published the book "Gemstones in the First Millennium AD - Mines, Trade, Workshops and Symbolism", edited by Alexandra Hilgner, Susanne Greiff, Dieter Quast. The volume includes articles by Kerstin Sobkowiak, Jörg Gengnagel and Borayin Larios (researches at the Department of Cultural and Religious History of South Asia, SAI and members of the project Weltweites Zellwerk - International Framework).


7.7.2017: Reading and Theater Performance & SAI-Summer Party
 On Friday, 7.7. 2017 at 5 pm, a reading and theater performance by the Department of Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures will take place at the Library, SAI, Heinrich-Zimmer-Reading Room. Afterwards the SAI-Summer Party will be celebrated at 6 pm.

Obituary for Prof. Dr. Klaus-Peter Köpping
 height= The South Asia Institute is united in grief of Prof. Dr. Klaus-Peter Köpping, who died unexpectedly in Berlin on 17 June 2017 at the age of 77. After several guest professorships in Aachen and Mainz, Köpping held a professorship at the Institute of Ethnology at Heidelberg University from 1991 to 2005. 
Book Chapter by Bernhard Beitelmair-Berini in "Theorizing India’s Foreign Policy”
 
The book "Theorizing India’s Foreign Policy” recently published by Routledge, contains a chapter by Bernhard Beitelmair-Berini (PhD researcher and lecturer at the Department of Political Science at the SAI) on “Theorizing Indian Strategic Culture(s): Taking Stock of a Controversial Debate“.
