All are welcome!

Abstract

In different ways and from various points of view, scholars from such diverse fields as Feminism and Gender Studies, Postcolonial Studies, and Transcultural Studies have questioned the value, and sometimes even the possibility, of a non-Indian achieving an adequate understanding of South Asia. In this lecture, Prof. Sax defends the possibility, and more importantly the value, of the kind of regional studies that is embodied by the South Asia Institute at Heidelberg University in Germany, which celebrates its fiftieth birthday next year.
