Partition's Yet Another Face: The Case of Hyderabad and the Muslim Question

This presentation focuses on the Police Action of 1948 that resulted in thousands of killings of Muslims and Hindus in the Deccan. Whereas the violence and trauma led to the destruction of Hyderabad state, the new generation Muslims and Hindus in the Deccan were exploring a new discourse of modernity that blends global and local Muslim aspects. Along with contesting the previous traditional norms, this rise of new discourses mainly focused on the Muslim question. Blending oral histories and written documents, this presentation discusses the importance of these new dimensions of the Muslim question.
