About the Speaker:
As one of the founding members of the Mazdoor Kisan Shakti Sangathan (MKSS), Nikhil Dey has been working for the organization and has been a part of its decision-making collective since 1990. In this capacity he has been involved in struggles of the poor for justice, including grass root struggles for land and the payment of minimum wages. He has also been a part of the organisation’s involvement in collective larger campaigns - most notably for the people’s Right to Information (RTI), and the Right to Work (MGNREGA) and engaged in people’s movements to build institutions of participatory democracy. He was a member of the steering committee of the Open Government Partnership (OGP) from 2011-2014 and today is part of the Jan Sarokar, a network of Indian social movements, which recently organized an Indian ‘people’s parliament’ due to the lack of parliamentary oversight for five months during the Covid-19 lockdown.
