An Act made to provide for adaptions in certain existing laws and legal documents

Whereas it is expedient to make necessary adaptions in certain existing laws and legal documents as are concerned in the repeal of the Local Government (Upazila Parishad and Upazila Administration Reorganization) Ordinance, 1982 (LIX of 1982);

Now, therefore, it is enacted as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Existing Laws and Legal Documents (Adaptions) Act, 1994.
(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on the 23th November, 1991.

2. Definitions.- In this Act-

a) "existing law" means any existing Act or Ordinance;
b) "legal document" means existing statutory rules, regulations, by-laws, orders, notices and other legal or legally authorized documents.
3. Adaptions in existing laws and legal documents.- (1) Every existing law and legal document having being in force on the date of commencement of this Act shall, unless the subject or context requires otherwise, be applicable subject to the adaptions under this Act.
(2) In every existing law drawn up in English the word "Upazila", wherever it may be mentioned, shall be deemed to have been substituted by the word "thana".
(3) In every existing law drawn up in Bengali the word "Upazila", wherever it may be mentioned, shall be deemed to have been substituted by the word "thana".
(4) In every legal document drawn up in English the word "Upazila", wherever it may be mentioned, shall be deemed to have been substituted by the word "thana", and in every legal document drawn up in Bengali the word "upazila", wherever it may be mentioned, shall be deemed to have been substituted by the word "thana".

4. Removal of difficulties.- If there arises any difficulty or doubt in the case of giving effect to the provisions of this Act, the Government may, by order, take any such measure as may be required for the removal of such difficulty or doubt.
