An Ordinance made further to amend the Local Government (Union Parishads)
Ordinance, 1983

Whereas it is expedient further to amend the Local Government (Union Parishads) Ordinance,
1983 (LI of 1983) for carrying out the purposes hereinafter appearing;

And whereas Parliament is not in session and the President is satisfied that circumstances exist
which render immediate action necessay;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Article 93 (1) of the Constitution,
the President is pleased to make and promulgate the following Ordinance:-

1. Short title.- This Ordinance may be called the Local Government (Union Parishads) (Second
Amendment) Ordinance, 1987.

2. Amendment of section 6 of Ordinance LI of 1983.- In section 6 of the Local Government
(Union Parishads) Ordinance, 1983 (LI of 1983), in sub-section (1), for the word "five" the word
"three" shall be substituted.

3. Abolishment of existing Union Parishads.- Notwithstanding anything contained in the Local
Government (Union Parishads) Ordinance, 1983 (LI of 1983) or any other law, the term of all
Union Parishads existing immediately before the commencement of this Ordinance shall end on
the 31st December of 1987:
Provided that, notwithstanding the end of the term of the said Union Parishads on the said date,
new Union Parishads shall continue their work until the holding of the first meeting.
