Open Access publication of Markus Schleiter’s „Die Birhor“
The Draupadi publishing house in Heidelberg and CrossAsia-eBooks started in Spring 2017 a co-operation to publish electronic Open Access versions of selected books on South Asia that appeared originally as print editions and are not scheduled for reprint.

New Publication on CrossAsia-eBooks: Übersetzung als kultureller Transfer
CrossAsia-eBooks, the Open Access publication platform for Asian studies, is pleased to announce a new publication: There exist many tales about the Indian king Vikrama in different Indian languages. Persian versions emerged during the 16th century, when the Persian language was one of the many literary languages and also functioned as administrative language in India.

Professor Rahul Mukherji, Head of the Department of Political Science at SAI, and Dr. Himanshu Jha, Lecturer and Research Fellow at the same Department, recently published an article in the Economic and Political Weekly (Vol. 52, Issue No. 49). The article is entitled „Bureaucratic Rationality, Political Will, and State Capacity - MGNREGS in Undivided Andhra Pradesh“ and is available here.

New publication by Ute Hüsken
Prof. Dr. Ute Hüsken, Chair of the Department of Cultural and Religious History of South Asia contributed a chapter entitled “Gods and Goddesses in the Ritual Landscape of Seventeenth- and Eighteenth-Century Kāncipuram” to the new publication Layered Landscapes: Early Modern Religious Space Across Faiths and Culture, edited by Eric Nelson and Jonathan Wright (Routledge).

Publication of Ismat Chughtai's "Das Brautkleid" translated by Christina Oesterheld
Lotos Werkstatt recently published "Das Brautkleid" by Ismat Chughtai, which was translated by Christina Oesterheld (Department of Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures) using translations by Axel Monte and Ursula Rothen-Dubs. Furthermore, she wrote an epilogue for the new text.

Volume by Axel Michaels in "Frühe Zivilisationen. Die Welt vor 600" and Lecture at Princeton University
The volume "Frühe Zivilisationen. Die Welt vor 600" recently published by Hans-Joachim Gehrke includes a chapter "Südasien und Südostasien" written by Prof. Dr. Axel Michaels. The volume is part of the six-volume series "Geschichte der Welt" published by Akira Iriye and Jürgen Osterhammel. Like the other volumes of the series, this book will also be published in English by Harvard University Press.
