Urdu Afternoon at the SAI
The Department for Modern South  Asian Languages and Literatures invites you to an Urdu Afternoon at the SAI.

Small lectures and recitations about or in Urdu will be given by SAI-staff, students and guests from outside.

A homage to a literary culture and also to Christina Oesterheld, who taught Urdu at the SAI for two and a half decades and filled it with soul.

Public Reading "Die Stadt, das Meer, die Liebe" by Rahman Abbas
Urdu writer Rahman Abbas reads passages from his novel Rohzin (2016). Its publication has provoked heated discussions. The novel was translated into German by Almuth Degener and published by Draupadi publishing house as Die Stadt, das Meer, die Liebe. Rohzin is a Bombay novel, a love story, a coming of age novel and, in the words of the well-known Urdu-critic Gopichand Narang, "a turning point in the history of the Urdu novel". All are cordially invited.

Discussion-round on the “Problems of the Bengali language/ বাংলা ভাষার দুরবস্থা”
On Friday, 18 May 2018 from 11am-1pm in room 323, the Department of Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures is organizing a discussion-round on the “Problems of the Bengali language/ বাংলা ভাষার দুরবস্থা” (in Bengali) with Dr. Md. Maizanur Rahman Khan from Rajshahi University, Bangladesh.  All are heartily welcome.

Grants for Film Project by Jürgen Schaflechner and Sjoerd van Tuinen

Dr. Jürgen Schaflechner (Department of Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures, SAI) and Sjoerd van Tuinen (University of Rotterdam) have received a special grant from Princeton University's Fung Global Network Fund to produce a film project on the topic of the politics of resentment.
