Referat/Presentations

Students preparing their presentation should aim to contextualise (rather than explain) the mandatory article, and to extend the class’s knowledge with reference to at least 4 of the other readings on the list for that week. Please consult the criteria before preparing your presentation. Presentation slides should be emailed to your instructor one hour before the class.

Hausarbeit /Term Paper

Students seeking 8 credit points are expected to write a paper on a topic related to any weekly topic of the seminar. Term papers are to be 15-17 pages (5000-6000 words) in length including footnotes and references. Term papers are due by the end of the semester (March 31st for Winter Semester/ September 30th for Summer Semester). Students needing extensions must contact Dr Stöwesand (if enrolled in the SAI) or Professor Maclean (if enrolled through any other program). Please consult the style and form guidelines criteria for assessing the Hausarbeit, and also note the style guide here. The Statement of Authorship is mandatory, and can be downloaded here.

Weekly Readings

Students enrolled in Seminars are all expected to read the asterisked text prior to class (see information on Moodle), plus one other of their choice. Consult Miriam E. Sweeney’s guide to reading here and Kevin G. Barnhurst’s guide to reading here. Prof Holly Walters provides more extended tips on reading articles here. More resources on types of reading and reading practices can be found here.
