Postdocs

Overview

There are currently no funded postdoctoral positions in the History Department of the South Asia Institute, however, the Department will consider postdoctoral applications that align with the profile of the department’s research and teaching agenda (broadly speaking, 19th and 20th century histories of South Asia), with a view to supporting applications for funding from EU funding agencies. A list of funding opportunities (not exhaustive) can be found here:

Applications are competitive, because the department can only support one candidate per funding round. A postdoctoral candidate can expect a desk in the CATS research complex; access to the CATS-Bibliothek , a world class library with specialized South Asian materials and languages; and membership of a vibrant, interdisciplinary and international community of scholars in the SAI, the support and mentorship of Professor Kama Maclean and integration into the research activities and colloquiums of the Department of History.

Enquiries can be sent to Dr. Joanna Simonow: joanna.simonow@sai.uni-heidelberg.de

Eligibility

  • Applicants must hold a PhD obtained a maximum 5 years prior to the submission deadline.
  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate they hold a Masters in History, or equivalent.

  • A writing sample: a peer reviewed journal article, or a working paper

Evaluation process

  • Evaluation of written application- notification of this will be communicated within 3 weeks of the submission deadline
  • If the written application is positively evaluated, applicants will be invited for an online interview with Prof. Maclean and Dr. Simonow, and referees contacted.
