PhD Program

PhD Program at the South Asia Institute

There are a limited number of openings to pursue a PhD in South Asian History under the supervision of Professor Kama Maclean. Applications are considered twice a year, and the process is competitive. Please submit the following documents to Ms. Lizeth Ortiz, at history@sai.uni-heidelberg.de by October 29:

  • A cover letter
  • Your research proposal, including a literature review
  • Your Academic CV
  • A Formal Academic Transcript
  • A letter of funding support, if you have already secured funding

Acceptance for supervision in the department is dependent upon applicants meeting the acceptance requirements in the Faculty of Philosophy.
Acceptance for supervision does not come with funding. You can find a list of Doctoral Fellowship opportunities at Graduate Academy Funding and at Graduate Academy Fellowships. Please note that some doctoral fellowships require you to demonstrate that you have been accepted for supervision prior to application.
