PhD Program at the South Asia Institute
There are a limited number of openings to pursue a PhD in South Asian History under the supervision of Professor Kama Maclean.
Applications are considered twice a year, and the process is competitive.
The next submission date is August 31st. Applications will be reviewed in September and early October. We will get back to you within this time frame.
Please submit the following documents, preferably as a single PDF, to Ms. Lizeth Ortiz, at history@sai.uni-heidelberg.de
- A cover letter stating your motivation to pursue a PhD in the department
- Your research proposal, including a literature review that demonstrated your thorough knowledge and critical evaluation of relevant debates, a description of archives and sources you wish to consult and a rough timeline
- Your Academic CV
- A Formal Academic Transcript
- A letter of funding support, if you have already secured funding.
Acceptance for supervision in the department is dependent upon applicants meeting the acceptance requirements of the Faculty of Arts. For this purpose, applicants must be able to demonstrate that they hold an MA in History with above average grades.
