The 16th Conference of The International Association for Ladakh Studies (IALS) has taken place at the Department of Geography, South Asia Institute, Heidelberg University, Germany, 17.-20. April 2013.
Under the overarching topic "Society and Environment in Ladakh: Historical Perspectives and Recent Dynamics", senior scientists, young researchers and practitioners discussed different topics related to Ladakh and its neighbouring mountain regions. Following the tradition of the IALS, the conference had an explicitly interdisciplinary character.
