New graduate program about Global History of Religion from a regional perspective ("Globale Religionsgeschichte aus regionaler Perspektive")

A new graduate program concerns with Historicization and decentration of religious identities in the 19th and early 20th century. It is  funded by the the State Graduate Sponsorship Program (Landesgraduiertenförderung) and begins from 05/01/2015. 
The aim of the college is an examination of different regional perspectives and the reciprocity and multipolarity of global religious exchange processes.

A close cooperation with the Project MC7 "political legitimacy" of the Cluster of Excellence Asia and Europe in a Global Context is provided.
The program was requested by Michael Bergunder (Religious Studies and Intercultural Theology and an associate member of the SAI). Further responsible are Friederike Nüssel (Systematic Theology and Ecumenism), Jan Stievermann (History of Christianity in the US) ,Hans Martin Krämer (Japanese Studies), and Hans Harder (Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures, South Asia Institute).
Arian Hopf (picture), who completed his master's degree in "Modern Languages ​​and Literatures of South Asia" at the SAI in 2014, will deal with the South Asian context as a PhD student of Hans Harder. The focus of his investigation will be the concept of religion in Urdu.
