Prof. Dr. Axel Michaels reappointed as Senior Professor

We are pleased to announce that Prof. Dr. Axel Michaels has been reappointed as Senior Professor for the third time by Rector Prof. Dr. Melchior.

Prof. Dr Michaels served as Director of the Department “Cultural and Religious History of South Asia (Classical Indology) from 1996 to 2016. He is the Founding Director of Centre for Asian and Transcultural Studies (CATS) and Director of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe”. 

Prof. Dr. Michaels is currently Head of the research unit ”Documents on History of Religion and Law of pre-modern Nepal" and has served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the von Portheim Stiftung since 2020.
