Concert "Resonating Ragas"

As part of SAI's 60th anniversary, the concert "Resonating Ragas" with Keerthana Ravi will take place on June 2, 2022 at 6 pm. The event will take place in room 010.01.05 (CATS seminar building, Voßstrasse 2) and will be streamed online on Youtube: https://youtu.be/VXuvWATfH20.
The instruments will be played by Deepak Sayeeram (Vina), Sreedev Sreekumar (Mridangam) and Jeysri Balaji (Violin).


Film Screening "Mirrors of Malabar" on 17.5.2022

On Tuesday, May 17 at 7:15 p.m., the Department of Cultural and Religious History of South Asia cordially invites you to a screening of four short films made for Museum Rietberg's 2019 exhibition "The Mirror: Our Reflected Image." The screening will take place in room 010.01.05 of the South Asia Institute, will be introduced by Harsha Vinay, and will be followed by a question-and-answer session. Welcome to Dr Brahma Prakash
The South Asia Institute is happy to welcome Dr. Brahma Prakash as Baden-Wuerttemberg-Fellow 2021/22! Dr. Brahma Prakash is Assistant Professor of Theatre and Performance Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. He is a scholar of South Asian folk culture and performance traditions. His research intersects ritual, performance and festival studies in relation to the questions of marginality, aesthetics and cultural and ecological justice.He is the author of Cultural Labour: Conceptualizing the ‘Folk Performance’ in India (Oxford University Press, 2019). As a Baden-Württemberg Fellow at the South Asia Institute, Dr. Prakash will be developing his research project on Chhath Festival, tentatively titled as: “Festivals For the Future: Centring Ecology in Heritage Making Discourse in South Asia.” He will be also presenting chapters from his working monograph, Epical Subjects and the Questions of Cultural Justice in India.
