Appeal for Support of Pakistan Flood Victims
Currently several provinces in Pakistan are hit by floods due to torrential rains. In the course of this ongoing catastrophe more than 1000 people have died and more casualties are expected. Access to food, clean water and medicine is not given for a huge number of people.

The Association of Friends and Patrons of the SAI which is a non-profit organistaion now calls for donations for flood victims in Pakistan. With these the assocation wants to support help in the region of Peshawar and in the districts of Swat and Shangla in particular. Professor Sayed Wiqar Ali Shah from the Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, who since last year is Muhammad Iqbal Fellow at the Southasia-Institute, will coordinate the help on location. He will take care that the donations are given directly to the people concerned and will later also report about the usage of the money donated.

If you want to support this initiative please write to or . We are grateful for your support.

Ceremnonial Inauguration of the Heinrich-Zimmer-Chair for Indian Philosophy and Intellectual History on 28th June
The Heinrich-Zimmer-Chair for Indian Philosophy and Intellectual History is a jointly endowed professorship awarded to Heidelberg University by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations. Being the first of its kind in Germany, the chair enhances the leading role of Heidelberg University's South Asia Institute, and more recently the Cluster 'Asia and Europe in a Global Context', in academic relations between India and Germany.

The first chairholder, Prof. Dhruv Raina, is Professor for the History of Science and Education at Jawaharlal Nehru University. His research has focused on the cultures of scientific knowledge in South Asia and the encounter of 'modern' sciences and 'traditional' sciences in colonial India. While the chair will be affiliated to the South Asia Institute and the Cluster 'Asia and Europe', it is designed to encourage intensive exchange and discussion with scholars from other faculties and departments, notably the Department of Philosophy.
This is what makes it, in the eyes of Prof. Dr. Dharampal-Frick (SAI, Dept. of History), so unique:" The Heinrich-Zimmer-Chair will contribute a great deal to liberate Indian philosophical thinking from its niche existence and integrate it into the mainstream of philosophical teaching and research in Germany."
The inauguration will take place on 28th June at 1pm in the Alte Aula of Heidelberg University.
