Project Presentation at SEAMEO RIHED-DAAD Study Visit in Heidelberg

At 6th December 2017, a delegation of South East Asian higher education institutions visited Heidelberg University. The visit was part of a Seminar and Study Visit to Germany  from 3rd to 9th December, which focussed on Higher Education Research and Innovation, and was organized by the DAAD and SEAMEO-RIHED (Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Higher Education and Development). The event in Heidelberg titled “An inter-regional perspective on Public Health and Ageing of Societies“ took place at the Old University and was attended by a delegation of 16 high-ranking participants from eight Asian states (Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam). Prof. Dr. Dieter W. Heermann (Vice President International Affairs)  welcomed the delegates and gave an introduction to Heidelberg University, Dr. Constanze Weigl-Jäger (Institute of Gerontology) presented the DAAD-project “New  Directions in ‘Active Ageing‘ and ‘Age-friendly Culture‘ in India and Germany“ and Prof. Dr. Eric Schmidt (Institute of Gerontology) hold a lecture on Ageing societies and age-friendly culture. The visit ended with a discussion joined by Dr. Joachim Gerke (Head of Department International Relations) and provided not only an opportunity for exchange of knowledge and expertise on public health and ageing but also the establishment of new contacts and higher education cooperation between Germany and Southeast Asia.
