An Act made to amend the Local Government (Union Parishads) Ordinance, 1983

Whereas it is expedient to amend the Local Government (Union Parishads) Ordinance, 1983 (51 of 1983) for the purpose mentioned below;

Therefore it is herewith enacted as follows:-

1. Short title and commencement.- (1) This Act may be called the Local Government (Union Parishads) (Amendment) Act, 1989.
(2) It shall be deemed to have come into force on 26th Caitra, 1395/9th April, 1989, respectively.

2. Amendment of section 5 of Ord. No.LI of 1983.- Subsection (3) of section 5 of the Local Government (Union Parishads) Ordinance, 1983 (51 of 1983), hereinafter referred to as the said Ordinance, shall be substituted by the following subsection, namely:-
"(3) The Government shall nominate the women members from amongst women of the union."

3. Repeal and Savings.-

(1) The Local Government (Union Parishads) (Amendment) Ordinance, 1989 (Ordinance No.3, 1989), is herewith repealed.
(2) Notwithstanding such repeal, anything done or measure taken under the said Ordinance amended by the repealed Ordinance shall be deemed to have been done or taken under the said Ordinance amended by this Act.
