“Dalit movement in India – recent trends and dilemmas”
on Thursday, 03.11.2016, 6 pm, Room Z10

The lecture tries to outline the evolution of Dalit movement in India and briefly analyse the most important trends that appeared in the past 40 years. It especially focuses on the dilemmas which Dalit leaders and thinkers have been facing recently. These dilemmas include casteization of Dalit politics, lack of unity among Dalits, inner reservations, influence of Hindutva, attitude towards certain specific aspects of Dalit culture, conversions to other religions or evolution of Dalit theology.   The lecture does not focus on any particular region, it is meant as a kind of introduction into contemporary Dalit movement in India.
