Call for Papers/Abstracts
SASON International Conference
December 14-16, 2013
Kathmandu, Nepal
The Sociology/Anthropology Society of Nepal Organizing Committee requests proposals for panels and individual papers. We welcome scholars from around the world and encourage papers not just on Nepal but on the thematic focuses of the conference.
Authors are requested to submit abstracts of their papers electronically to: sason85@gmail.com
by May 30, 2013 and, full paper on the prescribed format by July 30, 2013. Abstracts should be limited to 150 words and the full papers should be limited to 5000-6000 words. SASON encourages the submission of papers on the following themes, but not limited to:
Current dynamics in a transforming Nepal related to development, diversity, and power structures. Under the theme of development we seek papers critiquing development practice and the dilemmas of foreign aid; cultural adaptation and mitigation of climate change; migratory labor and the economies of the periphery; governance and development including the successes of user groups and resource governance; poverty and livelihoods; social services and social security.
Under the theme of diversity and identity movements: global forces and demands for identity recognition; gender and cultural difference; human rights, cultural rights, and religious rights in diverse states. Under the themes of historical and contemporary socio-polities: feudal moorings of Nepali politics; national integration and demands for recognition by ethnic minorities; religion and social transformation; social inclusion; violence and symbolic violence.
