"Hello! My name is David Alexander Plessy. I come from Atlanta, Georgia, USA. I studied Biology, Chemistry, and Anthropology in the USA and India. My goal in the MAHASSA program is to better understand alternative perspectives on health and healing, particularly those of mindfulness techniques and breathing in the context of Indian and Tibetan traditions of yoga. My interest in these topics comes from my first hand experience with different types of yoga, pranayama, meditation, and other mindfulness and spiritual practices. Throughout the past five years, as I was learning more about moving, breathing, and letting go of tension in the body and mind, I found that my understanding of these things was being deepened by my studies in the Biological and Chemical sciences. Learning about life on a physical, cellular, and chemical level revealed to me the a greater depth of intimate connection between the mind, body and breath, and how much of an impact breathing has on our physiology and mental health.I am currently learning a great deal about health and healing as it is conceived in different cultures, and in different medical systems. In addition to understanding how different people approach health and illness, I intend to discover how the breath and the mind can be used together to invoke certain states of health previously undocumented in scientific literature.Besides studying in the MAHASSA program, I generally enjoy walking in nature, making music, and appreciating the joy of being alive :).
