Maira Shaukat did her bachelors in Public Administration from the National University of Sciences and Technology, Pakistan with her thesis titled 'Health campaign as a cover for intelligence gathering activity: The case of CIA's fake vaccination campaign in Abbottabad to track Osama Bin Laden'. During her studies, Maira interned at the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reform Government of Pakistan, and the Citizens' Archive of Pakistan. In her senior year, she worked for six months at the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of Pakistan as a research assistant. The lack of quality primary research and the abundance of interesting and important subject matter in Pakistan prompted her to apply to MAHASSA, a unique program specific to her interests. The program will allow her to develop an outsider's view of her own country, enriching her academic analyses. A wide range of topics fascinate her including identity, perception of the body, organ transplants, abortion, childbirth and death, feminism and ritual healing.
