Short Biography

Christoph Bergmann studied Anthropology and Philosophy (M.A.) at Heidelberg University from 2001-2006, where he graduated with high honours (1,0). Before graduation he worked as a student assistant in the DFG-project "The Healing Cult of the God Bhairav in the Central Himalaya" (303560). After graduation he joined the SFB 619 "The Dynamics of Rituals" (project area A4 "Agency and Territorial Rituals in India" and A5 "Ritual Healing and its Critics"). In 2008 he received a Ph.D.-scholarship from the federal state of Baden-Wuerttemberg (Landesgraduiertenfoerderung) for a project on mountain pastoralists in the Kumaon Himalayas (India). From 2008-2010 he has been a research fellow at the Kumaon University. Since 2010 he is employed as a researcher at the South Asia Institute (DFG-project NU 102/10-1).
