Short biography

Christoph Cyranski studied Anthropology, Psychology and Religious Studies at the Universities of Munich and Heidelberg. He received his M.A. from Heidelberg University in July 2008. In his M.A. thesis he analyzed dynamics of the local use of Siddha medicine in south India in the context of the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. Since September 2008, Christoph Cyranski is a PhD candidate in Anthropology at the South Asia Institute and the Cluster of Excellence 'Asia and Europe in a Global Context' at Heidelberg University. His dissertation investigates the transformation of Ayurvedic practice through intercultural encounters in a south Indian Ayurvedic health resort.
