Donations for flood victims in Kashmir
The South Asia Institute has launched a donation campaign to support the flood victims in the Himalayan region of Kashmir. The region divided between India and Pakistan suffered in the past two weeks one of the worst floods in its history. Monsoon rains have transformed the region into a disaster area. Two to three million people had to leave their homes, more than 500 have died so far in the floods.
Thousands of soldiers are helping continuously and 200,000 to 600,000 people are cut off in Srinagar. The telephone network has collapsed and the supply of the population with food and medicine is interrupted in many parts of India and Pakistan. The real extent of the disaster is not clear at the moment.
The raised money will be directly used for the support- and rehabilitation measures in Kashmir.
The organization is done by the nonprofit Association of Friends and Supporters of the SAI and with the help of the staff of the Institute, as well as the branch offices in India and Pakistan. So the funds can be forwarded directly to the affected people and institutions.
The SAI provided help for flood victims before multiple times and thus contributed to improve the situation of the population in the worst affected areas.
