Exhibition "Von Atlantis bis heute - Mensch. Natur. Katastrophe"

The Reiss-Engelhorn-Museum Mannheim displays from September 7th, 2014 to March 1st, 2015 the exhibition "Von Atlantis bis heute - Mensch. Natur. Katastrophe". It is mainly organized by the global art historian Prof. Dr. Monica Juneja (Professor of the Cluster Asia and Europe and Associate of the South Asia Institute) with help of the historian Prof. Dr. Gerrit J. Schenk (TU Darmstadt), Jacob Birken, Noura Dirani (both Cluster Asia and Europe) and Dr. Christoph Lind (Reiss-Engelhorn Museums of Mannheim).

The exhibition presents the research results of the project "Images of Disasters" of the Cluster Asia and Europe and illustrates for the first time the multi-faceted issue of disaster and the response of human beings dealing with disasters and extreme natural events. The show brings together well-known and lesser-known disasters of world history. It investigates how people in different centuries and cultures reacted to the forces of nature.

Furthermore, on Saturday, October 11th, 2014, 16.00-17.00 a talk about the exhibition will be held at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The participants will be: Gerrit Jasper Schenk, Jacob Birken, Christoph Lind and Martin Gieselmann (Managing Director of the South Asia Institute).
