As part of the Research Colloquium of the South Asia Institute, Prof. em. David Arnold (Department of History, University of Warwick, UK) gives a lecture on the topic "Intimate Histories and State Stories: The politicization of Poison in Colonial India".
The lecture discusses the social, legal, and governmental dimensions of poisons and poisoning in modern India and focusses thereby on two key aspects: First how certain substances came to be designated as ‘poisons’ and second the connection of the political representation of poisoning and the threat to order, security and legitimate commerce.
