Annual Conference of the Cluster of Excellence starts this week

The fourth Annual Conference of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe” will take place from October 10th – 12th 2012. This year's conference has been organised by Research Area D in cooperation with the CRS 933 “Material Textcultures”. Entitled “Things that connect – pathways of materiality and practice” this year’s meeting focuses on the study of materiality and the power it exercises in cultural processes. The conference features two keynote lectures: Neil MacGregor, the Director of the British Museum in London, will open the conference on Wednesday evening in the Alte Aula with a lecture on "Trajectories of meaning. The shifting power of things.". On Thursday evening Ian Hodder, a renowned professor of archaeology from Stanford University, will speak about "From materiality to entanglement" in the Karl Jaspers Centre.
