Subrata K. Mitra and Dr. Michael Liebig: "Kautilya's Arthashastra: An Intellectual Portrait - The Classical Roots of Modern Politics in India"
Nomos recently published a new book co-edited by Prof. Subrata K. Mitra, Ph.D. (Rochester, USA, former head of department of Political Science, SAI), and Dr. Michael Liebig (department of Political Science, SAI). The book is entitled "Kautilya's Arthashastra: An Intellectual Portrait - The Classical Roots of Modern Politics in India" and is part of the series of "Modern South Asian Studies".
Hindi Day on 27 January 2017
The Department of Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures cordially invites you to this year's Hindi Day.
The event is entitled "Die mannigfaltigen Ausprägungen des Hindi (the manifold manifestations of Hindi)" and takes place on 27 January 2017 from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm in the Heinrich Zimmer Reading Room of the South Asia Institute.


Academic Farewell in honor of Prof. Dr. Jörg Gengnagel


On Monday, 30 January 2017, an Academic Farewell in honor of Prof. Dr. Jörg Gengnagel (Department of Cultural and Religious History of South Asia) will be held at the library of the South Asia Institute. The event starts with a welcome by Prof. Axel Michaels, followed by a talk by Prof. Sumathi Ramaswamy (Duke University) on "Going Global in Banaras". Afterwards, there will be a roundtable.
Talk by Siri Hettige on 18.01.2017
