Baden-Würtemberg Fellow Prof. Dr. M.S. Nathawat arrived at SAI
A warm welcome to Prof. Dr. M.S. Nathawat who is Baden-Würtemberg fellow in the Indo-German Exchange Program at the SAI from November 2009 to January 2010. Prof. Nathawat is professor and head of the Department of Remote Sensing & Geoinformatics at the Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, Ranchi (Jharkand). Dr. Clemens Spiess on Manmohan Singh visit in US
Dr. Clemens Spiess (Department of Political Science) has given an interview for the Swiss Radio (DRS) on the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the US. Find the homepage of the interview here and a podcast of the interview here (minutes 20:40-26:30).
Prof. Bruno Knall passed away
On November 15th 2009 Prof. em. Dr. Bruno Knall passed away at the age of 85. Professor Knall was at the SAI from 1968 to 1992 where he held the chair of Development Economics. For a short desciption of his academic life read here. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 26th 2009 at 2 pm at the Nussloch cemetery.  
Welcome to Prof. Kirloskar-Steinbach
Last not least a warm welcome to our third guest professor this semester, namely apl. Prof. Dr. Monika Kirloskar-Steinbach, who is replacing Prof. Dharampal-Frick during her sabbatical. Monika Kirloskar-Steinbach has studied philosophy, englisch literature and psychology at Wilson College, Mumbai, where she earned her B.A. and M.A. in philosophy. In 2000 she received her doctorate at Konstanz University. In Konstanz she also finished her postdoctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) in 2005. Find more details here
Heidelberg Center South Asia Opened
On November 17th 2009 the rector of Heidelberg University, Prof. Dr. Bernhard Eitel, has opened the Heidelberg Center South Asia in New Delhi. It is designated to enhance the activities of the existing office of the SAI. For more details see the press release and the report (German only) by Heidelberg University press office.
