Asha Archives (Āśā Saphū Kuthi) now accessible
The Asha Archives (Āśā Saphū Kuthi), a digitized collection of 7.025 manuscripts and more than 1.100 palmleaf landgrant documents on 54 DVD Roms, are now accessible at the library of the South Asia Institute.The manuscripts are mainly written in Sanskrit (ca. 70%) or Newari (ca. 20%).The collection covers a vast variety of subjects starting from literary works, dictionaries, medical and astrological texts to religious manuals and ritual texts. Access to the collection is possible via three catalogues. Find more information at

Internships are an integral part of the BA Southasian Studies at the SAI. In order to further deepen the connection to practical experiences of the students there are four lectures offered on Friday, June 26th, 10-15h at SAI, Room Z10 namely:

In India Dalit-Women - so called untouchables - belong to the most disadvantaged persons. Since two years now the Sambhali-Trust tries to improve their situation. The Sambhali-Trust (a grassroots-NGO) and its founder Govind Rathore are in Germany for the first time. It is their aim to introduce the situation of Dalit-women and present concrete examples how to improve their lives.
