In 2013 the SAI offers a number of  summer schools. From August 5 - 30, 2013 the Department of Classical Indology offers its Summer Schools Spoken Sanskrit and Nepali Intensive Course.  The Department for Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures offers a summer school Intensive Course in Spoken and Written Urdu to be held from August 12th to 31st, 2013. In a few days Prof. Dr. Dietmar Rothermund will be celebrating his 80th birthday. The SAI is happy to invite to a function in honor of his emeritus on Thursday, January 24th 2013. The main laudation will be delivered by Dr. Theo Sommer, Editor-at-Large of DIE ZEIT.

The 3rd Annual Meeting of the South Asia Study Group within the German Geographical Society (DGfG) will take on 25 and 26 January 2013 at the SAI.

On the occasion of the visit of the ambassador of Sri Lanka, H.E. Sarrath Kongahage, who came on invitation of the SAI to Heidelberg, the guest received the latest version of the University Atlas personally from Rektor Prof. Bernhard Eitel.

From December 24th to 28th 2012 the SAI building will be closed. It will be reopened on Wednesday, January 2nd 2013. The SAI-Library is closed from December 24th to January 4th 2013.
