Prof. Golam Hossain has passed away
With great sadness we announce that Professor Golam Hossain was killed in a tragic car accident on 31th July 2012 in Dhaka/Bangladesh. Prof. Hossain was associated with the Department of History at the South Asia Institute as a DAAD and Humboldt Fellow since 1998 and has periodically visited Heidelberg  for research purposes during the last fifteen years. We convey our sincere condolences to his bereaved family and relatives.
Indian Ambassador visits SAI
On July 18th 2012 the newly appointed Indian Ambassador in Berlin, H.E. Mrs. Sujatha SINGH visited the SAI. She met members of the SAI board as well as students from India. 
Summer Schools start
On Monday, August 8th 2012 the 13th Summer School in Spoken Sanskrit and Nepali Intensive - both conducted by the department for Cultural and Religious History of South Asia (Classical Indology) will start. 
Article on Himalaya at local paper RNZ
Die mehr als 4500 m hohe Rupal-Wand auf der Südseite des Nanga Parbat wurde erstmals 1970 durchstiegen.

Today the article "Der Himalaya - Gigant zwischen Faszination und Gefahr" has been published by the local paper RNZ. It brings together some of the lectures that had been held at Peterskirche. You find also an online version.

Prof. Dr. em. Jürgen Lütt has passed away

It is a sad duty to announce that Prof. Dr. em. Jürgen Lütt has passed away on July 17th 2012 in Heidelberg. The funeral service will be held on coming Tuesday, 12.30h at the Heidelberg Handschuhsheim cemetery.
