On December 18th, 10.30 a.m. Prof. Sayed Wiqar Ali Shah (Allama Iqbal Professor, South Asia Institute-University of Heidelberg) will give a talk on “Gender and Politics in Pakistan: The Political Role of Pashtun Women in Historical Perspective” on a CEIAS-conference in Paris.  

The first graduation ceremony of the South Asia Institute takes place on Friday, December 13th 2013 at 6 p.m. at the SAI library, Heinrich Zimmer Reading Room. We welcome your particpation and kindly ask you to register for the event.

"Religion and law in pre-modern Nepal" is the topic of a new Nepal research project by Prof. Dr. Axel Michaels. The Union of the German Academies of Sciences and Humanities supports the project over the next 15 years.

Aditya Ghosh, Research Associate at the Department of Geography at the South Asia Institute won the Asian Environment Journalism Award for an article entitled “Indian islanders seek jobs, husbands outside sinking Sundarbans”.

From now on the new calendar 2014 of the South Asia Institute is available for purchase at the SAI-library. The calendar organized by the student council and includes 13 designs which were the winning images of the foto competition of the SAI.
