International Conference on August 4th 2014

An international conference on "India in the Contemporary World" will take place on August 4th 2014, at 9 a.m. in the Heinrich Zimmer reading room, Library of the South Asia Institute. The conference is a cooperation between the South Asia Institute and the Warsaw University.

First Indian newspaper digitized

The first published newspaper in India was digitized and now provided for online use from the holdings of the library of the South Asia Institute. The newspaper is called Hicky´s Bengal Gazette (1780-1782), which was published by James Augustus Hicky (1739/40-1802) on January 29, 1780 in Calcutta.

Radio-Interview with Manju Ludwig

On July 1st, 2014 an interview with Manju Ludwig (PhD student and Academic Advisor at the Department of History at the South Asia Institute) was broadcasted on radio Dreyeckland about "Das dritte Geschlecht - Hijras in Indien".

Farewell-celebration of Prof. Mitra on July 15th, 2014

On Tuesday, July 15th, 2014, 6pm the farewell-celebration in honor of Prof. Subrata Mitra, PhD (Rochester) will take place in the reading room of the library of the South Asia Institute (SAI), INF 330. The ceremony will be followed by a reception in the SAI Foyer and after this there will be a farewell-party in the house.
