Obituary for U Tin Htway

U Tin Htway 1973

The SAI is united in grief over the loss of U Tin Htway (born 17.09.1930), who passed away at the age of 85 years on 23 October 2015 in Heidelberg. From 1969 - 1995 he worked as a lecturer in Burmese at the South Asia Institute at the Department of South Asia Politics and later at the Department for Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures.

Oxford University Press published a new book edited by Prof. Dr. William Sax (Head of the Department of Anthropology, South Asia Institute): "The Law of Possession: Ritual, Healing, and the Secular State"

and
"Himalaya ki Nandadevi" - the Hindi translation of Prof. Dr. William Sax´s 1991 book "Mountain Goddess: Gender and Politics in a Himalayan Pilgrimage".
SAIHelpNepal on International Photofestival from 3.-9.11.2015
From the 3rd-9th November, the first international photography festival in Nepal will take place, where SAI Help Nepal will contribute with the exhibition "Patis in Patan". The project is conducted by Prof. Christiane Brosius (Professor of Visual and Media Anthropology, Heidelberg University), the artist and curator Sujan Chitrakar and the photographer Rajendra Shakya.
New Research Fellow at Department of Development Economics

We cordially welcome Min Xie as Research Fellow at the Chair of Development Economics at the South‐Asia Institute. He will be conducting research within the framework of the research project “Microfinance in Low‐Income Countries”.
