Reading with Geetanjali Shree on 18.11.2015
The well-known Hindi author Geetanjali Shree will give a reading from her novel "May", which has been translated to German, on 18 November 2015, 11.00 a.m. c.t. in Room 316 of the South Asia Institute. After the reading, an open discussion will be held.

Prof. Dr. Michaels receives the Lautenschläger Research Prize

Prof. Dr. Axel Michaels, head of the department of Cultural and Religious History of South Asia at the South Asia Institute and director of the Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context”, receives the Lautenschläger Research Prize endowed with 250,000 euros.

Obituary for U Tin Htway

U Tin Htway 1973

The SAI is united in grief over the loss of U Tin Htway (born 17.09.1930), who passed away at the age of 85 years on 23 October 2015 in Heidelberg. From 1969 - 1995 he worked as a lecturer in Burmese at the South Asia Institute at the Department of South Asia Politics and later at the Department for Modern South Asian Languages and Literatures.
